'Tranquility - Scholar's Study Room Set 1' by Wing Qin

Tranquility – Scholar’s Study Room Set-1 consists of a set of small items for the scholar’s desk: a brush rest, seal, brush washer and brush tester made from mixed black and white glass.

This scholar’s set provides a perfect complement to the Qing Dynasty (AD 1644-1911) scholar’s desk items already part of Bristol’s Far Eastern Collection, such as brush washers and brush rests.

The set will be displayed in time for the Ahead of the Curve exhibition*, giving visitors the opportunity to see examples of some of the most interesting contemporary Chinese glass.

The artist, Wang Qin (born 1978, Jingdezhen, Jiangxi Province) trained in painting in Fuzhou and Beijing, followed by a BA ceramics at the Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute. He went on to take an MA in Glass Art at the University of Shanghai where he is now a lecturer. He is one of the most interesting Chinese glass artists working today.

The cost of purchasing Tranquility – Scholar’s Study Room Set-1 was £800, funded by the Friends in full.

*Footnote: The Ahead of the Curve exhibition starts on 13 December — click on Exhibitions for details.
