Day: The late summer excursiona are to the Royal Maritime Museum on Sunday 1 July for the ‘Royal River: power, Pageantry and the Thames’ exhibition; a trip to Eastnor Castle, Herefordshire on 16 August; and to the Royal Academy for the ’From Paris: A Taste for Impressionism’ exhibition on 15 September. Short: Newly added to the Full Events List are details of a half-day visit to Chedworth Roman Villa at Yanworth, near Cheltenham on Wednesday 3 October.

Lecture/Lunch on Tuesday 14 July: always a very popular event with members, this year’s Lecture/Lunch will be particularly special because our lecturer will be Karin Walton, Curator of Applied Art.

Now open! Leonardo da Vinci exhibition: 30 March – 10 June:
Bristol Museum & Art Gallery is among five regional museums in the UK to host a tour of ten of Leonardo da Vinci’s finest drawings from the Royal Collection. The exhibition forms part of the celebrations of the Diamond Jubilee of Her Majesty The Queen in 2012. Click on News for details of the major programme of lectures, workshops and events running alongside the exhibition, plus details of an excellent complementary Exhibition, ‘Leonardo’s Legacy’, in Exhibition Gallery 2 on the second floor.

Latest update: There have been over 40,000 visits to the main Leonardo Exhibition in 38 days. There is just over a month before the exhibition ends on 10 June, so make sure you don’t miss out (it bears repeated viewings anyway). It’s not so busy during the week, especially the first and last hour of the day (10-11 am, 4 – 5 pm weekdays, 5-6 pm weekends). There is also a Late Night at the Museum opportunity to see the Exhibition on Friday 18 May, from 5pm-8pm.
Raw Materials: Four American Artists 1973 – 2007 30 June – 23 September
Raw Materials brings together icons of conceptual art on loan from Tate & National Galleries of Scotland. Donated by Anthony d’Offay, Artists Rooms* is an inspirational touring collection. Bristol Museum & Art Gallery will showcase four artists with a strong interest in language: Bruce Nauman, Jenny Holzer, Ed Ruscha and Lawrence Weiner.

Drawn in Bristol presents…Animals, until 25 May
Discover wondrous beasts from across the globe in M Shed’s shop space. The new assortment of weird and wonderful works have been created by Bristol’s finest creature-loving illustrators; Jenny MacKendrick, Jude MacGregor, Katy Christianson, Laurie Stansfield, Romina Berenice Canet and Slumber. Drawn in Bristol celebrates the work of local illustrators and M Shed provides an innovative platform to profile and retail their work.
Late night at M Shed: Celebrating the Olympic Torch Relay 22 May 2012, until 9pm
Enjoy a late night celebrating the arrival of the Olympic Torch and the opening of the latest exhibition at M Shed
Bristol Urban Sport explores the relationship between the fabric of the city and sport over the last 200 years. The exhibition reveals how the people of Bristol have manipulated both the natural landscape and man-made architecture for sporting activity. Displays of photography, memorabilia, objects and film give focus to four themes…Personal Expression;Bristol Sporting Events;Our Sporting Places and My Sporting Community.

Pirates ahoy!
M Shed has become a safe berth for the pirate ship from Bristol-based Aardman Animations’ new pirate-themed movie -The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists. The pirate ship – 4.2 metre-long with a mast reaching 4.6 metres high – dropped anchor in the museum foyer recently and will remain safely moored there until October.
